Last year, I was at a pet hospital with my cat, when a large dog, unable to walk, was brought in by it's owner to be put to sleep. The owner, for whatever reason, left. I asked the vet if I could spend some time with the dog & be there to comfort it when the time came. I sat with him for an hour talking to & petting him.
